KAZAKISTAN

It is the ninth largest country in the world. From the industrious former capital of Almaty to the futuristic capital of Astana, it dominates the boundless Great Steppe, a Russian word that translates literally as “dry plain”. The existence of deep canyons confirm though that water exists, still flows underground and has modelled the land of the Kazakhs for millennia. And once again we find that being able to skilfully and carefully exploit this precious natural resource means to improve the economic conditions of an entire population.
